What it does

Inverters convert DC battery power into AC electricity, allowing you to run electronics without using the engine or generator. Why it matters

Inverter failure cuts off AC power when away from shore power, forcing reliance on a generator for electronics and appliances. General Maintenance

Verify inverter operation monthly by measuring AC output voltage and ensuring cooling fans activate under load. Inspect DC and AC connections quarterly for tightness, corrosion and signs of overheating. Monitor battery voltage while the inverter is under heavy load to detect excessive voltage drop, which can indicate poor connections or undersized cables. Annually, clean dust, salt and debris from cooling vents using compressed air. Confirm that DC circuit breakers and fuses are correctly sized for the inverter and that grounding connections are secure. AC power can be extremely dangerous.
